Climbing and Crawling

I began taking my older son, Ryan, to Gymboree Play & Learn classes when he was 3 1/2 months old. It was fun to see Ryan learn the familiar routine of each level, from the opening activities, to parachute bubbles, to calling out Gymbo at the end of class. Perhaps my greatest memory of Ryan's experience at Gymboree thus far, however, is when he was about 9 1/2 months old. We were at home one day, and he was exploring near our stairs when all of a sudden, I saw him start to climb up the stairs. He had already gotten up 3 steps by the time I was able to run over to him and stop him before he took a tumble backwards. From there, he was climbing up the steps every day. The next time we went to Gymboree class, I jokingly told Ryan's teacher, Ms. Debbie, that I "blamed" her for building Ryan's physical skills to the point where he was climbing stairs at home. In reality, though, I was thankful and knew that the Gymboree class deserved credit for this milestone. Now I am not only still taking Ryan to Gymboree class, but I am also taking his younger brother, Kyle, to the Play & Learn 2 class. Kyle is currently 8 months old and not yet crawling. While I work with him at home on developing this skill, I just feel like I have the confidence and guidance to help him more at Gymboree. I know that it is only a matter of days before he will be crawling, and I will once again be crediting Gymboree to his success. Climbing and crawling--all laughter, no bawling--Gymboree is the place to be!
