My son Hunter and I began taking Gymboree play classes when he was about 4 months old. At first he was just sitting there and toppling over every couple of minutes and I started to think maybe it wouldn't be much fun for him because he couldn't move very much. He was also acting incredibly shy and no matter how hard I tried I couldnt get him to even smile. Then our class leader passed out the Gymboree scarves and almost like magic he stayed sitting and when I put the scarf over his head tentativley, not sure about what he would think, suddenly he whisked it off and I shouted peek a boo! Nearly at the top of my lungs and for the very first time during that class he smiled at me and laughed. As we took more classes I noticed he seemed to love peek a boo time more than anything else and when we had free time to explore the room together he always found the scarves, when Gymbo came out for Peek a Boo he clapped his hands, and he nearly died of laughter when I would hide my face and he would tear the scarf away to the sing songy tune of " wheeeere's MOMMY?!". Now my son is 10 months old and I've watched him learn to crawl and learn to walk, I've watched him learn to climb and tumble to the ground. Even at 10 months he's so independent that he hates for me to hold him and wiggles and cries to get down, but if I'm doing laundry or he finds a piece of cloth he comes dragging it into my lap and puts it over his head and this time when he whisks it away I shout peek a boo! And he shouts BOO! I am grateful for Gymboree because in our hectic lives it gives me and Hunter a safe haven of Mommy - Baby bonding time that is unforgettable and creates wonderful moments like his peek a boo obsession. Thank You Gymboree for helping me find the one thing that always puts a smile on our faces ...
