I started going to Gymboree Play & Learn classes
when my son Jackson was 7 weeks old. He was not a huge fan at that first class, or at many classes to follow. I stuck with it though. The people there always made me feel very welcomed. No one ever lost patience when my little man would be screaming his head off. I was always welcomed with a smile. I was always offered reassuring advice or understanding.
As a new mom, I found these hysterical moments a bit tiring. Miss Rachel always reassured me that Jackson was doing a great job! She cheered him on during tummy time, the part of the class when he would usually break down, tears and wails pouring out of him.
We never miss a class. I was determined to have a fun time with him. I always had a nice time getting out of the house, even if I knew he would be leaving in tears. It was nice to meet other parents, even for 45 minutes. I looked forward to Gymboree Play and Music every week.
He is 18 weeks now. About a month ago I noticed a change in his demeanor during class. He began to pay attention to me, laugh, and his fits pretty much stopped. Each class since then has been so fun! I am sure it is partly because he has left the newborn stage and partly because he has gotten used to the scenery and the wonderful people we see each week. Whatever it is, it is nice! I constantly rave to people about Gymboree!
I call it his school and Miss Rachel his teacher. I say, "Jackson, I will have to tell Miss Rachel about this!" I look forward each week to updating the staff on what accomplishments he has reached in the past week. I love how engaged he has become. We even play some of the games we learned at class at home. I have bought a few items that I noticed him take a liking too, like the Gymbo puppet. He hugs and plays with Gymbo at home very often.
He even enjoys tummy time these days, at Gymboree Play and Music and at home! I attribute this to using some of the tricks we learned at Gymboree at home and practicing constantly! Mirrors and balls are a wonderful thing during tummy time. He has a few mirrors at home and can even grab toys besides just balls these days. He has even begun to try and scoot himself forward! I am so happy to have become a part of the Gymboree family.
I look forward to staying in this family for the next 5 years. It will be a sad day when Jackson is too old to come here. Thank you to everyone at the Vernon Hills location we attend!
